Zephyr’s 1st Deer

My 9-year-old son helped my dad, his Papa, process a deer for the first time yesterday. He was involved with every step of the process and we couldn’t be more proud of him! He missed a day of school for this as these teachings are so much more important than one day of curriculum.

Photographic note: I wasn’t available for most of the process and was only able to photograph the very end. I decided to not crop or straighten any image, so aside from tone adjustments, each frame is unchanged from when I clicked the shutter button. Two photos are from the very start of the process and were taken with my phone.

Note for vegetarians and vegans: This is not factory farming nor trophy hunting. Even when I was veg*n for nine years I had no issue with my family hunting, because they hunt in a good way. If you have an issue with Indigenous hunting, you need to examine your Western perspective and do some self-reflection. I appreciate your zeal, but if this angers you, it’s misguided. There are problems, but we’re not it.
